Travis Head Smashes Record with Blazing Century for SRH sets New IPL record
Sunrisers Hyderabad set new IPL records during their latest match, surpassing their own previous high score of 277 against Mumbai Indians earlier in the season. Travis Head achieved the fastest century by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman, reaching the milestone in just 39 balls. Additionally, the team hit a total of 22 sixes, marking the highest number of sixes in a single IPL innings. Head’s eight sixes tied the record for the most sixes by any Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman in IPL history. Heinrich Klaasen, batting at No. 3, contributed 67 runs, which included 7 sixes.
Power Hitting By Travis Head sets New IPL Record
SRH’s batting onslaught epitomized their strategy of relentless hitting. Despite Pat Cummins suggesting 240 as a par total at the Chinnaswamy stadium, SRH’s batsmen seemed determined to exceed expectations. Abhishek Sharma, partnering with the dynamic Head, stole the spotlight with a blazing 108-run partnership in just 49 balls.
Abhishek matched Head’s aggression as they dominated RCB’s bowling lineup, unfazed by the changes in bowling. The momentum carried on with Klaasen’s arrival, who quickly took charge against spinner Mahipal Lomror with a couple of sixes, while Head continued to punish the pacers. Head swiftly reached his fifty in just 20 balls within the powerplay, targeting Lockie Ferguson and Yash Dayal. The onslaught persisted as even Will Jacks conceded 21 runs in his third over. Head accelerated towards his century, adding three fours off Vijaykumar Vyshak as SRH reached the 200-run mark in just 15 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Overwhelm RCB in Crushing Victory
RCB made several changes going into the match, dropping players like Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj while continuing to exclude Cameron Green. However, these changes didn’t alter their fortunes as SRH displayed exceptional performance throughout the game. Every bowler in the RCB lineup suffered, with Yash Dayal’s four overs going for 69 runs, marking the second-most expensive spell in IPL history. None of the RCB bowlers managed to maintain an economy rate below Jacks’s 10.70. Moreover, if it wasn’t Head or Klaasen, there were also contributions from Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad. The pair smashed 56 runs in the last three overs, propelling SRH to a total never achieved before in IPL history.
Was the pitch excellent for batting?
There’s no surprise there. Despite its initial appearance of having some uneven bounce, the pitch proved to be a dream for batsmen. They effortlessly dispatched slower deliveries for sixes, and no bowler seemed to have mastered the conditions from either end.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Tested but Remain Unbowed in Intense Matchup
In a display of batting prowess, the bowlers found themselves overshadowed. Despite starting with left-arm spin, a usual weakness for RCB’s openers, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis initiated a formidable opening partnership, accumulating 80 runs in just 38 balls. Du Plessis was quick to embrace the aggressive ‘hit everything’ approach, securing a rapid fifty before encountering some setbacks.
RCB’s Top-order Collapse Puts Pressure on Middle Order; Karthik Stands Firm
RCB faced setbacks as Kohli was bowled by a Mayank Markande googly, followed by Will Jacks being run out due to overzealous backing up, courtesy of a deflection by bowler Jaydev Unadkat. These dismissals significantly hindered their momentum. The situation worsened when Pat Cummins dismissed Du Plessis with a caught-behind and then trapped Saurav Chauhan LBW on the very next ball. Cummins later claimed the wicket of Mahipal Lomror, leaving RCB in a dire position. However, these setbacks didn’t faze Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik’s Heroics in Vain as RCB Falls Short Despite Late Flourish
Despite RCB’s precarious position at 122/5 midway through the game, Karthik remained resolute. He maintained the aggressive batting display witnessed throughout the match, employing skillful footwork and clever shot placement to score five boundaries and seven sixes in his 35-ball innings of 83. While his efforts couldn’t secure a win, they did salvage some pride for RCB in the end.
