A Difficult Journey Post-Divorce

Desai’s life took a drastic turn after her separation from Sandhu, as she faced significant financial difficulties. She disclosed that she was burdened with a debt of approximately ₹3.5 crore, which included a ₹2.5 crore loan she had taken out to purchase a house. The actress recounted how her financial situation worsened unexpectedly when the television show she was working on was abruptly shut down. This left her without a stable income, forcing her to face the harsh reality of being homeless.

“I thought everything was fine, but then suddenly, my show was shut down. I was on the road for four days,” Rashami shared. During this period, she had no choice but to live in her Audi A6, with all her belongings stored at her manager’s house. The situation was exacerbated by her estrangement from her family, which left her isolated and without a support system.

Surviving on the Streets

In her vulnerable state, Rashami turned to cheap meals provided by local vendors, a common sustenance for many in similar situations. She described these meals, typically consisting of daal, chawal, and rotis, as containing stones, but she ate them nonetheless, as they were all she could afford. This period of homelessness was marked by profound challenges, both emotionally and physically.

Mental Health and Social Isolation

Rashami’s struggles were not limited to financial woes. She spoke about the psychological toll of her situation, including the isolation she felt from her friends and family. After her divorce, her relationships with friends became strained, as they perceived her as difficult due to her tendency to withdraw and become less expressive. Her family also doubted her decisions, further deepening her sense of isolation.

“I got divorced, and even my friends started to think I was very difficult because I wasn’t expressive and I would go into my shell. My family thought all my decisions were wrong,” Rashami recalled. The constant stress and lack of sleep took a toll on her mental health, leading her to a point where she questioned the value of continuing to live.

Support and Recovery

Despite these hardships, Rashami was able to overcome this dark period in her life with the support of her colleagues and team members, who stood by her during these trying times. She also credited yoga as a significant factor in her recovery, helping her to regain her balance and mental well-being.

A Glimpse at Rashami’s Career

Rashami Desai’s journey in the entertainment industry began with a cameo appearance in the Assamese film Kanyadaan (2002). She gained prominence with her role in the National Award-winning Bhojpuri movie Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar (2003), alongside Ravi Kishan. However, her fame soared with her performances in the television shows Uttaran (2008-2015) and Dil Se Dil Tak (2017-2018), where she captivated audiences with her versatile acting skills.

Looking Ahead

Rashami’s candid sharing of her experiences serves as a reminder of the unseen struggles many face behind the glamour of the entertainment industry. Her story is one of resilience and the importance of mental health awareness, as she continues to rebuild her life and career. As Rashami moves forward, her journey stands as an inspiration to many, showcasing the strength it takes to overcome adversity and emerge stronger on the other side.
