Former Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Singh to Face Sexual Harassment Charges

Brij Bhushan Singh, the ex-president of the Wrestling Federation of India, is facing accusations of sexual harassment after a Delhi court instructed that charges be formally brought against him. The former BJP MP is also accused of misconduct towards female wrestlers.

Former Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Singh to Face Sexual Harassment Charges: Delhi Police Submits Comprehensive Chargesheet

This concludes a protracted legal battle that saw wrestlers protesting against Brij Bhushan twice in 2023. On June 15, the Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan under sections 354, 354 (A), 354 (D) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Despite these serious accusations, Brij Bhushan did not receive a BJP ticket for his Kaiserganj constituency, with the nomination going to his son Karan Bhushan Singh instead.

According to the Delhi Police chargesheet, filed based on complaints from six wrestlers, Brij Bhushan is accused of being “liable for prosecution and punishment for offenses related to sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking.” The chargesheet further notes that witnesses observed what they described as “physically inappropriate gestures” by the former WFI president.

Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) FIR Lodged Against Brij Bhushan Singh in Wrestlers’ Case; Chargesheet Includes Multiple IPC Sections

Regarding the wrestlers’ case, two First Information Reports (FIRs) were lodged against Brij Bhushan following complaints from the wrestlers. One FIR was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A cancellation report has been submitted for this particular case involving a minor wrestler.

Delhi Police officials stated that, following the investigation into the FIR filed by the wrestlers, they are submitting a chargesheet. The chargesheet will include allegations under sections 354, 354A, 354D of the IPC against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Additionally, accusations under sections 109, 354, 354A, and 506 of the IPC will be included against Vinod Tomar, who was then an assistant secretary of the wrestling federation. This will be presented before the Rouse Avenue Court.
