IPL 2024 : Krunal Pandya delivered a significant injury update regarding Mayank Yadav. The pacer was forced to leave the field during the match against Lucknow Super Giants, resulting in Gujarat Titans’ defeat on Sunday.
Mayank Yadav, the IPL’s 2024 pace bowling sensation, endured a side strain during the ninth over of the run chase, compelling him to leave the field mid-game.
Lucknow Super Giants secured a vital 33-run win against Gujarat Titans in their recent IPL 2024 clash, held in Lucknow on Sunday. Defending a target of 164 runs, LSG managed to bowl out GT for 130 in 18.5 overs, thanks to an exceptional five-wicket haul from Yash Thakur. Additionally, Krunal Pandya made a significant contribution by claiming three wickets for the KL Rahul-led side.
However, Lucknow faced a major setback during the match as their promising fast bowler, Mayank Yadav, had to leave the field due to an injury in the ninth over of the run chase, citing a side strain.
Offering reassurance to concerned fans, Krunal Pandya confirmed after the match that Yadav’s injury wasn’t severe and he is expected to return for future matches. Speaking post-match, Pandya stated, “I’m not entirely sure about Mayank Yadav’s condition, but I had a brief chat with him. Based on that, I believe he should be fit for the upcoming matches. This is encouraging news for us. Mayank showed promising form in the nets and the previous season before being sidelined due to injury. From what I’ve observed and discussed with him, he has a strong mentality. I’m eager to see his progression in his career.”
The first innings witnessed a commendable half-century by Marcus Stoinis, who scored 58 runs, helping LSG reach a total of 163/5 in 20 overs. Darshan Nalkande and Umesh Yadav managed to take two wickets each for GT.
With this victory, LSG extended their unbeaten streak to three matches and currently hold the third position in the IPL 2024 points table. On the other hand, GT suffered their second consecutive defeat and currently sit seventh in the standings among the ten participating teams.
In the other IPL fixture held on Sunday, Mumbai Indians triumphed over Delhi Capitals by 29 runs. MI successfully defended a target of 235 runs, restricting DC to 205/8 in 20 overs, with Gerald Coetzee claiming four wickets and Jasprit Bumrah taking two dismissals. MI posted a formidable total of 234/5 in 20 overs initially, with Rohit Sharma contributing 49 runs off 27 balls.
